Here are some of the Will-Machado BJJ fighters that came together for competition and training in Melbourne recently. We were all guided through some new and innovative techniques and concepts by Rigan Machado on the Sunday following our most successful competition ever. It really was a great day. I have a strong feeling that the second weekend in September 2009 (12th) will be bigger and better again. See you there. Plan your calendar now.

During my trip over to perth this weekend just past, I had the pleasure and privelege of being able to present to long-time BJJ instructors their Black Belts.
The occasion was set up with an initial presentation to Brandon Chin, who was awarded his brown belt. Brandon trains at the Submission factory under Troy Flugge and has been an institution on the mat for a long time now. Congratulations Brandon.
Troy Flugge has been operating the Submission factory ever since western Australia’s first blue belt, Christian Theale left W.A to come back to Victoria. Troy has done tremendous work there and built the Sub factory into something very special. He always brings over a great team to the nationals each year and has been a very powerful force in the West Australian BJJ scene for years now. Troy is very bug on mat culture and always leads by example – it has been a real honour for me to have been able to play some small role in bringing him this far in his journey as a martial artist.
Congratulations Troy!!!
Gerald Burton-Batty has played a big role in the W.A BJJ scene for well over ten years now. Although he now works up in the mines, he always makes the effort to get to the mat when he is back in town on break. Gerald is a force of nature; he is someone who has grabbed life by the throat and given it one hell of a shake. Any who know Gerald, understand that he has fought many a battle off the mat as well as on; and he has prevailed where others would have perished. I admire him greatly for what he has achieved and the obstacles he has overcome. Gerald, the privelege is all mine.
Congratulations on your well-deserved Black Belt.
With respect,

Nathan received his Brown Belt from John Will at the 2008 Machado Nationals after winning the Purple Light weight division 2 years in a row. He won his entire division in under 4 minutes in total. He is the first person to be awarded his Brown Belt at AMMA GYM.
