Geoff first met John Will while in Australia in October 1995. Geoff, along with his training partner Ko, were in Melbourne for Zen Do Kai’s 25th year celebrations and travelled to Geelong for a private lesson with John at his Geelong Academy.
In 1996 Geoff and Ko again travelled to Geelong for a seminar this time with the legendary JJ Machado at the Geelong academy. It was an experience that Geoff would never forget.
“The seminar with Jean Jacques was great and John’s Geelong guy’s were unreal. Their skill level on the mat was beyond anything that I had expected and left me stunned and speechless for days. As Black Belts in Zen Do Kai, Ko and I got on the mat in Geelong with our Belts on and instantly found out first hand just how good BJJ was! (We got our arses handed to us!!)”
After some deep soul searching Geoff realised that the BJJ way was the way for him..
“Some of the highlights of my BJJ journey would have to be my friendship with John Will, my Brown Belt promotion from John in November 2005. Placing second to my old mate Doug in the Nationals 2002 and my training trip in July 2002, where I got to meet some of the big names in Johns BJJ organisation and stay with John.”
BJJ is now a huge part of Geoff’s life and his passion for it is evident in his dedication to John’s BJJ Australia organisation. Geoff is the self styled WebDude for John’s Website www.bjj.com.au and also looks after the running of the BJJ New Zealand site. www.bjj.co.nz
