Sean Kirkwood is a Black Belt in Machado BJJ under John B. Will
He has been a student of the Martial arts since 1982 and also holds Black Belts in J.B.Will Shootfighting, and Tae Kwon Do.
Sean first started training with John Will 13 years ago and was the founder of first BJJ academy in the state of N.S.W. in 1990. His original academy was in Maitland, but relocated to Newcastle in 1995. His academies have produced national champions in both MMA and BJJ competition.
Sean has also travelled to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the U.S.A. and Brazil.
“Sean Kirkwood, along with John Simon, was instrumental in importing BJJ into NSW – by having John Will visit for seminars in the early 90’s. Sean has been a solid force in the NSW BJJ scene, and through his efforts, many excellent BJJ fighters have been produced in the Newcastle area. Sean, the first person to open a BJJ Academy in N.S.W, is an excellent instructor and an inspiration to any who know him.
